Regular disruption of power supply irks villagers of Khour Tehsil
9/26/2016 10:57:07 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu Sept 26: Tall claims of Power Development Department to connect and facilitate every village of the State with power supply seem nearly hollow with villagers of Tehsil Khour facing acute shortage and frequent disruption of power supply for days together.
Sources told that sharp discrimination between people living in urban and rural areas is usually visible with respect to supply of electricity treating the former as upper class citizens and latter as lower class widening gap between them. Electricity provided by the government to the consumers in the state is not free of cost and each one pays for using the same, sources pointed out, adding that if it is so then why the people of rural areas are meted out step motherly treatment while supplying electricity in almost all the villages falling in Khour Tehsil.
Kuldip Singh Chib, retired Army Havaldar told Early Times that although village Badwal has been connected with facility of Power Development Department since pretty long time, but the there is no certainty of regular power supply with electricity playing hide and seek game. He told that little bit of wind blowing in and around these areas is regularly causing total black out in almost all the villages putting the majority of inhabitants in a state of darkness for hours together with no one to take cognizance from the side of PDD.
Rattan Singh Numberdaar of Budwal told that Channi Dewano, Doyan, Chack Rama, Kharota, Mirpur Sidder, Pangali Colony, Poppar Datyal , Magyal are some of the villages located adjacent to Line of Actual Control which are vulnerable to any untoward incident due to increased militant activities. Regular power supply in these areas especially at night can put as a big deterrent to unlawful activities in the border areas , he said, adding that these villages usually remain without electricity supply even for more than twenty hours due to casual attitude of the Department.
Garo Devi, house wife said that there seems no accountability fixed on the part of employees of PDD from down to top in Khour Tehsil nor any grievance cell with any phone connectivity put in place where a complaint can be lodged for redressal of their grievances. It appears that the Department is going on the whims and vagaries of weather instead of command and control of PDD employees there, she added.
Few locals of village Gigrial told Early Times that due to laxity of the Department most of the people are without permanent electricity connections and "Kundee" system openly prevails in the area allegedly owning to connivance of local employees who are working there since decades in an irresponsible manner.
Some villagers , who are paying electricity bills regularly, were of the view that the Department should gear up their men and machinery to replace temporary connections with permanent so that the electricity used by consumers is properly billed for and atleast regular power supply is ensured to genuine power consumers and sensitive area of LOC is kept dark free especially at night.
