Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 27: Even as the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti reiterated in the meeting two days back what she has been asking her party ministers to increase accessibility and interaction with the people in their respective constituencies, the fresh call is yet to be followed in spirit. A couple of senior ministers did take the cue and went out for the first time post two month long unrest in Kashmir, but their visit too remained confined to district headquarters.
Sources said following fresh emphasis on need for ministers to move out and reach out to people, a couple of senior ministers stepped out of the Civil Secretariat office chambers on Monday to distribute Indira Awas and Swach Bharat Mission cheques to the beneficiaries in their respective areas. However, this act raised some eyebrows in the opposition circles and drawing criticism for a couple of reasons, sources said.
Sources said though there is gradual improvement in the situation seen during the past few days, it is still far from normal and peaceful. While resumption of normal life activities by people in many parts including Srinagar has come as a huge relief for a distraught government, the PDP-BJP government is trying to attribute stepping out of some PDP ministers as signs of normalcy restoration, something which has drawn flak from all sides, sources said.
One that rather than going to people and meet them in any public meeting, leave alone organizing any rally, the PDP ministers still enveloped in layers in fear of public fury chose to call the IAY beneficiaries at district headquarters, in DC offices which are well protected and safe environs, sources said. Criticism in opposition camp is also growing for the fact that PDP is trying to draw a leverage over an action or the act which used to be the task of Sarpanches earlier, sources further said adding that no matter a large number of beneficiaries converged at two places where the two ministers went out, majority of the ministers have yet to venture it out from their offices and homes.
Pertinently, R&B Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri visited Anantnag on Monday and gave bank cheques to 205 benificieries under Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) and Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). The Minister distributed cheques worth Rs 77.19 lakh among 205 beneficiaries under IAY and Rs 12 lakh among 100 beneficiaries under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).
