Srinagar, Oct 13: A day after two militants were killed in the encounter at Pampore, the security grid across J&K has been tightened while a list of buildings vulnerable to militant attacks is being prepared to keep them on the security radar.
Sources said that security forces deployed in the state have been asked to remain extra vigilant while police and paramilitary CRPF men conducted a thorough checking of many hotels and buildings to nab any suspected militants. "Security forces have been kept on high alert and pro-active mechanism has been devised to foil the attempts of the militants aimed at vitiating the atmosphere" a senior police official told early TIMES.
He said that J&K Police personnel, paramilitary CRPF troopers have been deployed in length to keep vigil on subversive elements. "We have launched an offensive to get hold of the militants and will not wait for their action," said the officer. Sources said that Multi-layered barricades have been raised on all routes leading to Srinagar to nab the suspicious elements. "The bikers are particularly kept on high radar in Srinagar city. Hundreds of security forces personnel have been deployed on naka checkings, particularly in the civil lines and uptown, conducting random search of vehicles and frisking of pedestrians and passengers,"
Recent attacks by militants have deeply worried the security grid. The authorities fear more attacks on police and security forces across the state.
Given the presence of militants in Kashmir and the regular attempts of infiltration from across the border, the PDP-BJP coalition government is struggling to tackle the situation.
Even though many argue that the spurt in militant attacks was on expected lines as militancy is not completely out, the new strategy of militants is disturbing for the authorities.
Sources in the police said that we want to remain assured about the security preparedness in case militants manage to enter city and occupy any high-rise building. "After two successive encounters at the EDI this year, it has become mandatory to prepare the list of all the buildings that can be used by the militants in and around Srinagar city for taking refuse and imposing an encounter on the forces."
A senior security official said that of late it has been observed that militants, who come as fidayeen (suicide) squads, prefer to choose concrete buildings with a sole motive to prolong the encounter to create an impact.
