Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 14: Though the Rural Development Department (RDD) Minister Abdul Haq Khan, emphasized time and again to speed up various construction works but the Panchayat Ghar building in Chak Desa Singh Kathua, under construction for the last more than three years is awaiting completion. Sources said that the Panchayat Ghar Chak Dessa Singh was approved and construction work was started in the year 2013, for which funds were sanctioned under 13th Finance Commission. "The sanctioned cost of construction is Rs. 20 lakh but only the roof and walls of Panchayat ghar were constructed but most of remaining works including plaster, flour, electric fitting, water connection, power connection beside other works are pending", the villagers said. They further said that there was nearly five Kanals of government land, where the Panchayat ghar was being constructed. "Before construction of Panchayat ghar, the space was used by villagers to organize functioning like marriage ceremonies besides youth used to play there but with the construction of Ghar in the middle of land, all these activities have been stopped", the villagers said. The demanded immediate completion of the Panchayat. "If it is not possible then the land must be vacated," they said. Block Development Officer (BDO) Kathua Omdutt Atri said that Rs. 20 Lakhs were sanctioned for panchayat Ghar, out of which works worth Rs. 12 lakhs have already been completed. "The Sarpanch is executing the work but for the last many months, he had developed some serious health problems. Few days ago he visited BDO office, after which cement was sanctioned to him and surely the construction work will be resumed soon", he said. |
