Ahead of elections, PM Modi 'feels the pain' of Kashmiri Pandits
2/4/2019 11:53:27 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir stated that he is aware about the pain which Kashmiri Pandits have undergone during all these years.
Addressing a gathering at Vijaypur here the Prime Minister also said that he has been "bearing the pain of their (KPs) exodus". "The BJP-led central government is committed to ensure respect and dignity of the displaced community. The pain they had to undergo… they had to leave their homeland. I have never said this before, but I have been feeling their pain within me," Prime Minister Modi said.
An analyst said that "Someone needs to ask Prime Minister Modi what he has done for Kashmiri Pandits during all these years. The BJP led NDA government came into power in 2014 and since then only tall promises have been made. Nothing has been done on ground," he added.
The analyst said that BJP government despite having overwhelming majority in the Centre failed to build a separate colony for the Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley. "The Kashmir centric politicians sabotaged the project to appease the separatists like Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik. The irony is that even Centre surrendered before such forces and shelved the plan to come up with the secure colonies for Kashmiri Pandits. It's strange that politicians only feel the pain of Kashmiri Pandits during election time. After assuming power they forget that this community even exists," he added.
A Kashmir watcher said that BJP during its four and half tenure has done just lip service to the KP community despite KPs voting for the party in huge numbers during 2014 assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. "The BJP government proved no different from its predecessors and failed to rehabilitate the KPs in their homeland," he added.
He said that members of Kashmiri Pandit community have been ignored by all the regimes and no one has even made an attempt to address their sufferings. "KPs had pinned lot of hopes on the Prime Minister Modi but he also disappointed them. Now the time has run out and general elections are on the cards. BJP is once again trying to sell the old wine in the new bottle and is once again trying to project itself as the only party which can rehabilitate KPs."
He said that demands of Kashmiri Pandits have been ignored by the national leaders and during past 30-years no sincere attempt was made to address the sufferings of Kashmiri Pandits.
