The remaining honours include 17 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM) and two President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), officials said. At the national level, a total of 982 personnel from the police, fire services, home guards, civil defence and correctional services have been awarded gallantry and service medals on Republic Day 2026, the Union Home Ministry said. The awards include 125 gallantry medals, with the highest number — 45 medals — going to personnel deployed in the Jammu and Kashmir operations theatre, followed by 35 from Naxal violence-affected areas and five from the North-East region. Four fire service rescuers are also among the gallantry award recipients. According to the official breakup, Jammu and Kashmir Police received the highest number of gallantry medals at 33, followed by Maharashtra Police with 31, Uttar Pradesh Police with 18, and Delhi Police with 14. Among the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the CRPF is the only force to receive bravery citations this year, with 12 gallantry medals. The list also includes 101 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM) and 756 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM) awarded to officers and personnel across services.
