Parliament to pass crucial J&K bill before LS elections | | |

Jammu, Jan 11: A crucial bill related to Jammu and Kashmir is will be passed in the last Parliament session before the general election as the BJP-led government at the Centre is going to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Pahari ethnic tribe.
Although two crucial bills proposing the nomination of two Kashmiri Pandits including a woman and one Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK) refugee to the UT Legislative Assembly were passed in the Parliament in December, the Bill pertains to grant ST status to Pahari was not introduced for debate.
The Bill pertains to the grant of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Pahari Ethnic Tribe, Paddari Tribe, Gadda Brahmans, and ‘Kolis was introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Monsoon session of the Parliament but hasn’t been taken up for debate and passed motions.

Budget Session to begin on Jan 31 | | |
New Delhi, Jan 11: The Budget session of Parliament, the last session before the general elections expected in April-May, will begin on January 31 and is likely to continue till February 9, sources said.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget on February 1, they said.
The session will begin with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of the two Houses of Parliament

New Delhi, Jan 11: The Centre on Thursday directed the Jammu and Kashmir administration to seize all assets and freeze bank accounts and finances belonging to the pro-Pakistan separatist amalgam Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and Muslim League Jammu Kashmir headed by separatist Masarat Alam.
Both the organisations were recently banned by the government.

NEW DELHI, Jan 11: The Government has budgeted to collect Rs 18.23 lakh crore from direct taxes (personal income tax and corporate tax), 9.75 per cent higher than Rs 16.61 lakh crore mopped up last fiscal.
”Direct Tax collection, net of refunds, stands at Rs 14.70 lakh crore which is 19.41 per cent higher than the net collection for the corresponding period of last year. This collection is 80.61 per cent of the total Budget Estimates of Direct Taxes for FY 2023-24,” the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said in a statement.
Refunds amounting to Rs 2.48 lakh crore have been issued during April 1, 2023 to January 10, 2024.
