Cong ready to ‘surrender’

Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 13: Notwithstanding the stand taken by the J&K Congress leadership to claim the Lion’s Share in the Parliamentary seats in the Union Territory, the party’s high command appears to be ready to surrender before the National Conference. Instead of staking claims on maximum Lok Seats in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, the Congress high command has directed local leadership to take the National Conference on the board before making any statement on seat sharing in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Highly placed sources said that the Congress central leadership is not ready to take any tough stand as the high command is ready to support the National Conference on all the three Lok Sabha seats of the Kashmir Valley. Sources said that the high command is also not taking a tough stand on Ladakh Lok Sabha where the party has base in both Kargil and Leh districts. Searches underway in Poonch to track terrorists

Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 13: A cordon-and-search operation was underway in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday to track down terrorists who had fired on a convoy of Army vehicles a day ago, officials said. There was no casualty in the attack on the convoy on Friday. Troops are using sniffer dogs and aerial surveillance to comb the area, which has dense forest, the officials said. Court extends Police custody of Hizbul terrorist

New Delhi, Jan 13: A Delhi court on Friday extended by five days the police custody of alleged Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Javaid Ahmad Matoo, claimed to be involved in 11 terror attack cases in Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Nabeela Wali extended Matoo’s custody after he was produced before the court on expiry of the 7-day police remand granted earlier. Matoo, a ‘highly indoctrinated terrorist’ carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh, was arrested from the national capital’s Nizamuddin area, police had said after his arrest.
