Jammu, Jan 14: Realizing that their future is bleak in the party, one after another youth leaders are quitting the Congress party.
The Latest in this series is former Union Minister Milind Deora who joined the Shiv Sena on Sunday in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde after quitting the Congress earlier in the day.
The former South Mumbai Lok Sabha MP joined the ruling party in a function in Varsha, the official residence of the chief minister, in the afternoon.
In a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Deora had earlier announced his resignation from the Congress.

SRINAGAR/JAMMU, Jan 14: Cold wave conditions returned to Kashmir as the mercury plunged several degrees below freezing point after a day’s respite provided by a feeble western disturbance on Saturday, officials said on Sunday.
A dry and largely snowless winter in Kashmir has resulted in freezing nights and warmer than usual days as Srinagar’s day temperatures were over eight degrees above the normal for this time of the year, officials said here.
Srinagar city recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday night, 4.4 degrees less than Friday’s 0.2 degrees Celsius.

New Delhi, Jan 14:
The Supreme Court has directed the Centre to consider whether the compensation amounts in case of death and grievous injury in hit-and-run accidents can be enhanced annually.
The top court asked the government to an appropriate decision within eight weeks and posted the matter for further consideration on April 22.
The apex court noted that the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act, 1988 provides that in case of death of any person resulting from hit-and-run accident, a compensation of Rs 2 lakh or such higher amount as may be prescribed by the central government shall be paid and in case of grievous injury, the compensation amount is Rs 50,000.

Jammu, Jan 14: In a tragic turn of events during the Lohri celebrations, two lives were lost in a road accident at Sohanjana Tehsil of Phallian Mandal area in Jammu District.
The collision, involving vehicles with registration numbers JK08F0233 and JK02CJ8823, occurred on the Ring Road around 2 pm yesterday. Occupants of the Celerio car, Mohit Bharti and a young woman named Elish, along with Baleno car occupant Happy Kesar, sustained injuries in the unfortunate incident.

Jammu, Jan 14: In view of prevailing harsh cold conditions, the Directorate of School Education has further extended winter vacations in all private and government schools falling in the Summer Zone of Jammu Division till January 17. Earlier the vacations were extended till January 13.
An order issued by the Directorate of School Education on Sunday stated that the winter vacations are extended till January 17 for the students up to the eighth standard.
To accommodate the extension, schools will operate with revised timings from 11 AM to 3 PM during this period, it read.
