Involvement of cops in narco-terrorism worry authorities | | |

Jammu, Jan 20: Amid the ongoing crackdown on narco-terrorism, the Jammu and Kashmir administration recently dismissed five police personnel for their involvement in drug trafficking. Just three days ago, another police officer was arrested on the outskirts of Jammu city for drug possession, highlighting the challenge of rooting out the drug menace within the ranks of law enforcement.
In a significant breakthrough under Operation Sanjeevani, the Jammu Police apprehended two individuals, including a Special Police Officer (SPO) posted at the District Police Line (DPL) Poonch, for drug trafficking. The operation took place in the Miran Sahib area of R.S. Pura subdivision.
A police spokesperson revealed that the suspects were intercepted while traveling from Samba towards Akhnoor on the Ring Road. On noticing the police checkpoint, they attempted to flee but were quickly detained.

SRINAGAR, Jan 20: A soldier was martyred in an ongoing anti-militancy operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district, official sources said on Monday.
The operation was launched by joint forces on Sunday evening at Zaloora, Gujjarpati area of Sopore during which a hideout was busted.
Police said during a cordon and a search operation (CASO), firing observed from inside and the area was cordoned off.
Official sources said a soldier who was part of the advance team of the joint forces was critically injured in the exchange of fire with terrorists. The soldier was moved to the medical facility where he succumbed to the injuries, they added.

In a significant order, the Supreme Court on Monday directed 23 states and seven union territories to file compliance reports indicating implementation of the Motor Vehicle law’s recent provisions besides rules on electronic monitoring and road safety measures.
