Jammu, Sept 30: The Jammu and Kashmir government has in the past taken cover of Article 370 in order to swindle money granted by the GOI to protect state's forest cover.
The state forest department till August 5, this year was governed by J&K Forest Conservation Act of 1997. Taking cover of this special privilege, the state chose not to implement CAMPA guidelines.
In a most bizarre move the state authorities in the past purchased carpets LEDs, IPods from the money that was allotted for planting trees and saving forests in Jammu and Kashmir.
The inquiry initiated that time mentioned that the state dispensation diverted funds collected for afforestation towards all sorts of things - payment of loan, advances, sports meet, payment to private hotels etc. Expenditure was incurred on purchase of carpets, LEDs, ACs, iPods, sofa sets, projectors, installation of office cabins, installation of electric transformer, vehicles etc.

Jammu, Sept 30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has hinted that Kashmir-centric leaders may not be released soon. His statement that Sheikh Abdullah was jailed for 11 years and no one questioned the Congress government for it, is an indication that Kashmiri politicians have a long way to go.
"When Nehru realized his mistake of taking Kashmir to the United Nations, he jailed Sheikh Abdullah for 11 years. Now it has been only two months but people have talked so much about jailed J&K politicians," Shah said.

Jammu, Sept 30: The tall claims of the state government to deal sternly with corruption have fallen flat as some of the Sub Inspectors (SIs) of the 2010 batch in the Police Department, who were caught red-handed in corruption charges are being felicitated by giving them prime postings in Jammu without going into the scrutiny of their past service record.
Highly placed police sources, seeking anonymity, disclosed that though the corruption cases were running against some of the sub-inspectors of 2010 batch but it has no bearing while picking them for prime postings.

NEW DELHI, Sept 30: The Supreme Court Monday referred a batch of petitions challenging the Centre''s abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and related issues to its Constitution bench which would commence hearing on them on Tuesday.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi referred the pleas, which have also raised matters such as alleged restrictions imposed on the movement of journalists in Kashmir and illegal detention of minors in the Valley, to a 5-judge bench of the apex court.
The bench will be headed by justice N V Ramana and also comprise justices S K Kaul, R Subhash Reddy, B R Gavai and Surya Kant.

NEW DELHI, Sept 30: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is almost ready to file a supplementary charge sheet in terror funding case naming Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik, Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi and All Party Hurriyat Conference General Secretary Masarat Alam.
It is learnt that the agency may file the charge sheet before October 15 after getting the Home Ministry''s nod for prosecution of Malik, Andrabi and Alam - all taken into custody by the NIA in April and now lodged in the Tihar Jail here.
