NC achieves majority with independents, Congress becomes ‘non-entity’ | | |

Jammu, Oct 10: After facing the worst-ever defeat in the just concluded Assembly elections, the Congress has been relegated from a junior partner in the incoming government to a relative non-entity as the National Conference achieved a majority with the support of four Independents,
Before getting the formal support letter from the Congress, the National Conference approached four Independents and achieved a majority in the Legislative Assembly.
The National Conference has won 42 seats in the 90-member assembly having a majority mark of 46.
With the support of four Independents the National Conference achieved the majority number of 46.
Congress rebel Satish Sharma, who won the election from the Chhamb assembly segment of Jammu district as an Independent candidate by defeating former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, has extended support to the National Conference in the formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar, Oct 10: A whopping 84 per cent of newly elected MLAs in Jammu and Kashmir are crorepatis, a 9 per cent increase from 2014, with average declared assets of Rs 11.43 crore, according to data compiled by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Srinagar, Oct 10: Night temperature dropped at most weather stations of Kashmir valley and recorded below normal on Thursday after higher reaches of Kashmir valley experienced fresh snowfall on Wednesday, officials said.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar predicts mainly clear to partly cloudy weather with the possibility of light rain at isolated places in Kashmir division during the next 24 hours.

SRINAGAR, Oct 10: Security forces averted a major tragedy when they recovered and destroyed an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Baramulla Handwara National Highway in North Kashmir on Thursday. Officials said suspicious object was found at Thokerpora along the Handwara-Baramulla Highway, leading to the suspension of traffic in the area as a precautionary measure.
They said the area was sealed and a bomb disposal squad was called.
“The suspected object was blasted in a controlled explosion ,” officials said.
