Gujjars urge LG to halt oath of 9 MLAs elected from ST seats | Twist In The Tale | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 13: Although the date for the oath-taking ceremony of the new council of ministers is yet to be finalized, a new controversy has erupted as some organizations of Gujjars and Bakerwals have termed elections on nine seats reserved for Scheduled Tribe as illegal, and violation of the constitution.
Gujjar and Bakerwal organizations have asked Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to halt the oath of nine MLAs elected from the seats reserved for STs across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Gujjar community is up in arms over the Election Commission of India’s decision to allow Pahari-speaking tribe members to contest elections on Scheduled Tribe (ST) reserved seats. Mohammad Anwar Choudhary, chairman of the All Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar-Bakerwal Co-ordination Committee, claims this move violates constitutional provisions.

SRINAGAR, Oct 13: At least 13 newly elected MLAs in Jammu and Kashmir come from political families whose members have won or contested elections in the past, with the National Conference accounting for the maximum number of such legislators.
The National Conference, which has emerged as the single largest party in the assembly elections, is said to form the Government and had fought the polls in an alliance with the Congress.

SRINAGAR, Oct 13: Police arrested a man for allegedly stabbing his cousin to death following an altercation over parking space here on Sunday. Zareef Ahmad Mir allegedly stabbed his cousin, Amir Razak Mir, during an argument over parking vehicles near their shops in the city’s Parimpora area, a police spokesperson said.

Srinagar, Oct 13: Two minor children died after they were allegedly hit by a dumper in Kulgam district on Sunday, officials said.
Traffic Police officials said the accident occurred at around 0855 hours near Damhal Hanjipora, where a dumper vehicle allegedly hit the two children, injuring the both critically.

Doda, Oct 13: A 4.3 magnitude earthquake hit Chenab valley with an epicenter in Gundoh area of district Doda this morning.
The earthquake shook the entire region around 6.14 am but the time period was short.
