Jammu, Oct 19: Amid a “worsening situation” in Jammu and Kashmir coupled with the alleged arrogance of a “coterie of bureaucrats who are calling the shots”, the Union Territory badly feels the absence of the then Advisor, K Vijay Kumar.
After the collapse of the elected government in 2018, K Vijay Kumar served as Advisor to the then Governor in the erstwhile state. After the abrogation of the so called special status of J&K, he was appointed a senior security adviser in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
During his tenure as the Advisor in J&K, Kumar was “not only popular for his expertise on the security but also for his people friendly attitude.”

NIA may take investigations of minorities killings | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 19: The National Investigation Agency is likely to take over the investigations of some of the recent targeted killings that has triggered fear among the minorities and migrant workers, official sources said. They said Director General NIA Kuldeep Singh held a series of meetings on Monday in Srinagar with top J&K Police brass. The initial investigations by Police have hinted that these killings including that of famous Kashmiri Pandit chemist M L Bindroo show a larger terror angle.
The sources said the Ministry of Home Affairs will issue a notification and only after that the cases will be handed over to NIA.

Like him, scores of migrant labourers and their families have fled the Valley, saying they have experienced “hell’’ in the last couple of weeks after terrorists carried out targeted killings of 11 non-locals.

Jammu, Oct 19: Army chief General M M Naravane visited forward areas along the LoC in Jammu region on Tuesday and was briefed on the ground situation in the region and ongoing counter-infiltration operations, officials said here.

Poonch, Oct 19: A protracted operation to flush out terrorists in dense forests of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district has entered 9th day, making it one of the deadliest encounters for India’s military in the region.
Nine soldiers, including two Junior Commissioned Officers or JCOs, have been killed in the line of duty, fighting these terrorists since last Monday.

Kulgam, Oct 19: The Forest department has ordered a probe after receiving reports of illegal felling in several compartments of Damhal-Hanjipora range of Kulgam forest division. According to reports, the senior officials of forest department received pictures and videos of illegal felling through whatsApp. A few pictures and videos show few green trees copped and the logs manually converted into firewood.
On reciving these pictures and videos, Conservator of Forests South Range directed Divisional Forest Officer Kulgam to look into the report.

SRINAGAR, Oct 19: The Government Bulletin on COVID today informs that 84 new positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19), 12 from Jammu division and 72 from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 331221.
Moreover, 97 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 17 from Jammu Division and 80 from Kashmir Division.

New Delhi, Oct 19: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted heavy rainfall or snowfall for Jammu and Kashmir on October 23.
“A great western disturbance is coming which will specifically affect the western Himalayan region. So, we are expecting snowfall activity will be increased in the western Himalayan region. We are expecting heavy rainfall or heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir on October 23,” IMD senior scientist Naresh Kumar while speaking to news agencie.
