Detained Kashmiri leaders turn to religion for solace | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 5: History is witness to the fact that Kashmiri mainstream leaders always succumbed in difficult times. Be it Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah or his progeny, hardships and detention have always `deflated' them.
Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who became a popular leader by using the pulpit of the Jamia Masjid, turned secular as soon as the people started following him. However, in difficult times, he would turn to religion to win the peoples' support.
His critics believe that a dejected, ignored and abandoned Sheikh regained his popularity by constructing the new Hazratbal Shrine in 70s. According to them, he was almost forgotten by the people during his prolonged detention but the Hazratbal construction did the miracle for him.
Sheikh's son and National Conference patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah is known for his flamboyant lifestyle. He would dance with dusky Bollywood damsels. At times he would even sing songs and Bhajans. JAMMU, Oct 5: Kashmir-centric leaders who are under detention since August 5 are relaxing in a posh hotel and special huts in the Valley.
According to media reports, these leaders which include three Chief Ministers of J&K- Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are being provided with all the facilities by the government.

JAMMU, Oct 5: A Station House Officer (SHO) posted in Jammu Headquarter area has facilitated illegal occupation of a shop for a party from whom the officer had taken hefty amount in order to execute the act.
Sources informed Early Times that the SHO took Rs 1 lakh to aid and abet illegal occupation of the shop which was a bone of contention among two claimants of the property.

SRINAGAR, Oct 5: Following a grenade attack which led to as many as 10 people sustaining injuries here on Saturday, senior police officials have said that it was an attempt by terrorists to induce fear in the minds of people.
Speaking about the attack, AK Goyal, DIG South Kashmir said, "Terrorists lobbed a grenade at around 10:30 am today, in Lal Chowk area of Anantnag. Ten persons were injured and one of them is a traffic police constable."
He also said that terrorists want to create an atmosphere of fear through these attacks.

SRINAGAR, Oct 5: At least 14 persons, including a traffic policeman, were injured in a grenade attack by terrorists outside the Deputy Commissioner's office in Anantnag township of south Kashmir on Saturday, a police official said.
This was the second grenade attack in the valley since the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status on August 5.
The terrorists hurled a grenade on a security patrol outside the heavily guarded DC office complex in Anantnag town, around 11 am, the official said.
