Fear grips people as authorities fail to contain selective killings in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 6: While selective killings of civilians and unarmed cops are going unabated in Kashmir Valley, authorities are still groping in the dark.
“Strong condemnation” with ‘heavily loaded’ words has become a routine as the present dispensation appears to be helpless in containing selective killings, going in Valley after repeated intervals.
Highly placed sources said that those who are at the helm of the affairs are busy only issuing “condemnations” after all selective killings but on the ground fear psychosis has gripped businessmen who chose to stay in the Valley when militancy was at its peak.
According to reports, 23 civilians have been shot dead by terrorists in targeted-killings this year till date, including 8 in Srinagar, 4 in Pulwama, 4 in Anantnag, 3 in Kulgam, 2 in Baramulla, 1 in Budgam and 1 in Bandipora. Three of 23 were non-locals from mainland India, 2 Kashmiri Pandits, and 18 were Muslims.

Jammu, Oct 6: Many house owners who used to give out their dwellings on rent to people from Kashmir in October every year after Darbar Move, have been left to fend on their own this year as the government has scrapped the 149-year old practice.

Anantnag, Oct 6: In a surprising move, the Revenue Department in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has directed residents of Rakhi-Brah to demolish the structures constructed on land belonging to the Rakh and Farm department within 15 days.
A copy of eviction notice served to residents asks them to restore the farm land in its original form.

Baramulla, Oct 6: Two persons were arrested and hand grenades and pistol were recovered near the Line of Control (LoC) in border town of Karnah in the frontier district of Kupwara, official sources said on Wednesday.
