Jammu, Oct 6: Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, sent many messages during his 3-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
He removed his bullet proof shield while addressing a rally in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. He visited Downtown Srinagar in a first for any Union Home Minister in recent times, and business as usual at Lal Chowk with no strike or hartal.

Jammu, Oct 6: The three-day visit of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has fueled, speculations about the first Assembly elections in the newly formed Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The last Assembly polls were held in December 2014 when Jammu and Kashmir was full-fledged State and the Union Territory of Ladakh was also part of the erstwhile J&K State.

Srinagar, Oct 6: Even as the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah before concluding his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir chaired a unified high-level security meeting on October 5 here, the visiting dignitary is understood to have sought “Aatank Mukht Jammu and Kashmir”, and “even perceptible change in situation by November.”
Sources privy to the meeting said that Amit Shah took serious note of spike in terror related incidents ahead of his visit and told the officials including those from the Indian Army, JK Police and the paramilitary forces present to initiate strict action to “bring situation under more of control by November.”

NEW DELHI, Oct 6: The Supreme Court has directed all States and Union Territories to submit information on welfare schemes for the elderly with respect to pension, old age homes in each district and level of geriatric care.
A bench of Justices Anirudhha Bose and Sudhanshu Dhulia said the report of the States shall also disclose the present status as regards implementation of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.

JAMMU, Oct 6: Democratic Azad Party (DAP) chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad has formed various teams for submitting proposals for constituting zonal and district committees of the party ahead of the Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.

SRINAGAR, Oct 6: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a Hizb terrorist in south Kashmir’s Awantipora.
A police spokesman said the accused identified as Danish Mohidin Ganie son of Ghulam Mohidin Ganie resident of Dadsara Awantipor was apprehended by Awantipora Police along with Army 42 RR and CRPF 130 BN at a naka at Chandrigam. A Pistol along with pistol magazine was recovered from him, police said.

Jammu, Oct 6: A senior government official has directed construction companies engaged in widening the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway to deploy adequate manpower and machinery at all vulnerable sliding zones to immediately clear debris and maintain hassle-free traffic.
Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar passed the directions while inspecting progress of the four-laning work on Wednesday, an official said on Thursday.
Widening of the strategic highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of India, started in 2011.
The work is likely to be completed by next year after missing several deadlines.
