Experts’ panel report on road accidents in Chenab region gathering dust

Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 15: While one more tragic accident in the Chenab region claimed the lives of passengers, the report prepared by the experts to prevent road accidents in the erstwhile Doda district is getting dust. In February this year, the government had constituted a four-member high-powered committee to suggest measures for making the Batote-Doda-Kishtwar road accident-free. Early Times Report DODA, Nov 15: At least 38 people were killed and 20 injured when a bus carrying passengers skidded off the road and rolled down into a 300-foot gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Wednesday, officials said. The bus bearing registration number JK02CN-6555 was reportedly carrying 56 passengers, they said, adding that it skidded off the road near Trungal-Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar national highway and fell 300 feet downhill. A rescue operation has been launched and some bodies have been retrieved, the officials said. Early Times Report Doda, Nov 15: Local people in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda Wednesday accused authorities of failing to repair bad roads in the district despite repeated requests and demanded a probe into the devastating accident that left 37 people dead. A bus carrying passengers skidded off the road and rolled down into a 300-foot gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Wednesday. At least 37 people died and 19 were injured in the incident. Agencies New Delhi, Nov 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wendesday condoled the loss of lives in the tragic Doda bus accident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the PM’s National Relief Fund to the next of the kin of each of deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. “The bus accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir is distressing. My condolences to the families who have lost their near and dear ones.
