Srinagar, Nov 21: The data collected by the NCRB has revealed that Jammu and Kashmir has recorded over 1,700 suicide attempt cases during the past three years.
On an average two people attempt a suicide everyday across J&K and bids seem to be increasing with each passing day.
A Srinagar based news agency quoting experts said that more than 70% of suicide attempts involve individuals suffering from depression. “The actual rate is likely higher due to underreporting, as social stigma often prevents families from coming forward. Parental and peer pressure are significant contributors to suicide attempts, particularly among the youth,” said an expert.
