Jammu, Dec 9: Even as complaints of multi-crore corruption against Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Mayor, Junaid Mattoo have reached the office of the J&K Anti Corruption Bureau and Bharatiya Janta Party has spoken against him, he has landed in a fresh controversy of “grabbing Wazwan” worth lakhs of rupees.
A person who identified himself as Saqib running eatery business in Srinagar while addressing media accused Mattoo of grabbing Wazwan worth lakhs of rupees from the businessman and subsequently denied making the payments.
The businessman said Junaid Mattoo owns him “huge amount” but that instead of clearing the payments, has threatened the businessman of dire consequences.
“At first he dilly dallied making payments for numerous Wazwan parties. He subsequently asked me to take appointment even for seeking dues and subsequently threatened to me,” said the poor man apprehending a threat to life.
The complainant said all he had been demanding from Junaid Mattoo was clearance of his dues.

Shortage of 1.35 lakh personnel in 3 armed forces, maximum vacancies in Army | | |

New Delhi, Dec 9: The three services are reeling under a shortage of 1.35 lakh personnel with the maximum number of vacancies of 1.18 lakh in the Army, according to details provided by the government in Lok Sabha on Friday.
The total shortage in the Indian Navy (sailors) was estimated at 11,587 till September 30, Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt said in reply to a question.
He said the number of vacant posts in the Indian Air Force (Airmen and Non-Combatant) as on November 1, 2022, was 5,819.
The number in the Army was till July 1 and it included junior commissioned officers and other ranks.

New Delhi, Dec 9: Due to divergence of opinion amongst the various stakeholders, there is no proposal "at this juncture" to bring an All-India Judicial Service to select judges of lower courts, the government said in Lok Sabha on Friday. The government has been pushing for an all-India judicial service on the lines of IAS and IPS to select judges or judicial officers for subordinate courts.
"In view of the existing divergence of opinion amongst stakeholders, there is no such proposal of All India Judicial Service at this juncture," Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said in a written reply.

Srinagar, Dec 9: Mughal Road, connecting twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri with Shopian, remained closed since overnight while authorities on Friday also shut Srinagar-Leh highway after fresh snowfall.
A traffic department official here however said that traffic was plying on Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with outside world.
“Mughal road and SSG road closed for vehicular movement due 2 fresh snowfall,” the official said.

Jammu, Dec 9: The J&K and Ladakh High Court on Friday stayed a single-judge's order on cancellation of selection process for the posts of junior engineers and sub-inspectors of police.
