Jammu, Dec 17: While the National Conference has already started the campaign for three Lok Sabha seats for Kashmir, Congress leaders have made it clear to their party leadership that leaving all seats of Kashmir for coalition partners would prove disastrous for the party in the next assembly polls.
Highly placed sources said that during the meeting with AICC incharge J&K Rajni Patil, most of the Kashmir-based leaders emphasized contesting maximum Lok Sabha seats of J&K to further strengthen the party’s base in both the regions of the Union Territory.
“Kashmir-based leaders told Rajni Patil that apart from two Lok Sabha seats of Jammu province, Congress must contest on one Parliamentary seat of Kashmir Valley leave the remaining two for coalition partners”, sources said and added that Valley-based Congress leaders want to contest newly carved Anantnag-Poonch Lok Sabha seats.

Srinagar, Dec 17: Gulmarg records the season’s coldest night at -6.0C after higher reaches of Kashmir valley received fresh snowfall and plains were lashed by light rains.
Gulmarg received about 7 inches of snowfall and 132mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours till 0830hours today, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said.
After snowfall Gulmarg recorded the season’s coldest night at -6.0C on Sunday against the -2.8C recorded the previous night. It was 1.2C below normal for the famous ski resort of north Kashmir.

| | GST return filers up by 65 % in 5 years: Finance Ministry | | |
NEW DELHI, Dec 17: The number of GST return filers rose about 65 per cent to 1.13 crore in 5 years till April 2023 as compliance by taxpayers improved, the finance ministry said on Sunday.
Also, the number of active taxpayers registered under GST increased from 1.06 crore as of April 2018, to 1.40 crore.
As per data shared by the ministry, 90 per cent of eligible taxpayers are filing GSTR-3B returns by the end of the filing month in current fiscal year, up from 68 per cent in 2017-18, the first year of GST rollout.
”Simplification in Rules and Procedure in GST has resulted in increase in return filing percentage by eligible taxpayers,” the ministry said in a post on X.
