Jammu, Dec 18: After giving job and land rights to the inhabitants of Ladakh, the Union Government is seriously thinking to grant a sixth schedule like a constitutional guarantee to the Union Territory to ‘placate the annoyed’ people.
Ironically, residents of Jammu and Kashmir have been agitating to get land and job rights but nothing has been done so far. Even the ruling BJP had promised to project land and job rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir but promises remained only on papers.
Although the Union Government has given many concessions to the Ladakh region in contrast to Jammu and Kashmir where even land and job rights of the people are not protected. But the leadership of Ladakh is not relenting anything less than statehood.
When people of Jammu and Kashmir were demanding job and land rights, the government of the Union Territory of Ladakh issued an order defining “resident of the UT of Ladakh”.
