Former DySP, 5 others suffocate to death in Kathua | | | Early Times Report
Dec 18: A former deputy superintendent of police and his three-year-old grandson were among six people who suffocated to death when their rented accommodation caught fire in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district early on Wednesday, an official said.
Four other people injured in the incident were undergoing treatment in a hospital.
According to police, locals noticed the house on fire around 2:30 am and rushed to rescue its occupants. The house was filled with thick smoke, suffocating its occupants in their sleep, they said.
The victims were shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Kathua where six of them, including two minors, were declared ‘brought dead’, officials said.

SRINAGAR, Dec 18: Freezing cold continues to hold its grip in Kashmir valley even as there was slight improvement in night temperature at many places on Wednesday, officials said.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said the cold wave will continue with overall no significant change in the weather till December 26.

KATRA/JAMMU, Dec 18: Three shops were gutted in a fire incident on the route to cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Wednesday, officials said.

SRINAGAR, Dec 18: Security forces have recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and narcotics from a forest area near the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, the army said on Wednesday.
