Jammu, Dec 1: Stating that the Directorate of Information and Public Relations has pushed them to edge, the staffers of the daily Early Times on Wednesday staged protests here against the DIPR for stopping government advertisements to the English newspaper.
Holding placards, the ET employees including those from the Editorial, Human Resource and Printing Press held a silent sit-in outside the DIPR office here.
The staffers, who later submitted a memorandum to the Director Information, said that by stopping government advertisements, the backbone of revenue for the local dailies, the DIPR has made things difficult for them.

Jammu, Dec 1: Former J&K Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday said that J&K has become poor since its transition into a Union Territory.
Azad while talking to reporters here said, “There were 13000 industries in Kathua, Samba and Jammu before J&K was downgraded into a UT. At present 7500 industries in these areas are closed. In Kashmir all industries are shut.”
He said, “The erstwhile State has become poor during the past two years and the promises of development were just eyewash. Things are bad from Ladakh to Lakhanpur.”

During the last three years, there is an increase in the registration of cases under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act which is a clear indication that this menace is spreading in the Union Territory

Srinagar, Dec 1: The prevalence of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) that causes AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) has slowly tightened its grip on Jammu and Kashmir as over 5500 patients, have been tested HIV positive in the Jammu and Kashmir so far.
According to figures, over 5500 people have been detected in J&K so far. “Majority of them are from Jammu region.
Jammu, having the maximum fluctuating population, has reported the highest number of HIV patients”, the officials said.
The number of patients infected by HIV has shown an upward trend over the years. It has mainly been attributed to greater use of drugs than sexual transmission.

Srinagar, Dec 1: A local commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, who was also an expert in making improvised explosives device (IED) for the outfit, and a foreign militant were killed in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday morning, police said.
Police has termed the killing of the Jaish commander Yasir Parray, an IED expert and Furqan, a foreign militant as a "big success."
They said the gunfight erupted at Qasbayar village in Rajpur Pulwama when a joint of team of the different security forces launched a search operation in the area following an input about the presence of militants in the area.

Srinagar, Dec 1: A traffic policeman was injured in a suspected militant attack in Srinagar’s old city on Wednesday evening, officials said.
They said a traffic police man, identified as Mohammad Abdullah, was fired upon near Gani Memorial Stadium in the old city.
“He was rushed to a nearby hospital,” officials added.
The areas where the incident was reported has been cordoned off by the forces to nab the attacker.

New Delhi, Dec 1: The number of terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir during a period of 841 days after Article 370 was revoked dipped to 496 from the 843 cases reported in a same span of time prior to the abrogation, the government informed Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said during April 16, 2017 to August 04, 2019, 843 terrorist incidents were reported in Jammu and Kashmir in which 86 civilians and 78 army personnel were killed.
