Delimitation Commission proposal: Jammu annoyed, Kashmir unhappy | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 21: The proposal of the Delimitation Commission to increase six seats for Jammu province and one seat for Kashmir Valley has triggered fresh controversy as neither people of Jammu nor politicians of Kashmir are happy with the suggestions of the panel.
People of the Jammu region were expecting that the Delimitation Commission would end 75-year-old political discrimination with them. But, the Delimitation Commission, constituted by the BJP led government, has once again ignored the Jammu region by not equalizing assembly seats as par with Kashmir Valley.
Although officially BJP leaders have maintained a guarded silence, the majority of the Saffron Party leaders are unhappy with the proposal of the Delimitation Commission.
All Jammu-based parties were hoping that the Delimitation Commission would equalize assembly seats with Kashmir Valley to maintain the political balance but to no avail.

JAMMU, Dec 21: The recommendations of the Delimitation Commission on Jammu and Kashmir are ”divisive and unacceptable”, the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) said on Tuesday and announced a peaceful protest in Srinagar on January 1.
The Delimitation Commission, set up to redraw the assembly seats of the union territory, is learnt to have proposed six additional seats for the Jammu region and one for the Kashmir Valley in its ‘Paper 1 discussed with its five associate members – three parliamentarians of the National Conference (NC) and two of the BJP from Jammu and Kashmir- in New Delhi on Monday.

Jammu, Dec 21: The former leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha and ex-Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said that Jammu and Kashmir has been completely changed for a couple of years.
He said that those at the helm of the affairs were least concerned about employment and jobs for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Like a veteran politician, Azad has reason to raise this issue because during the last some months Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a drastic change as people are losing jobs and other rights.
Azad, who served as Chief Minister of J&K during the tenure of 2005 to 2008, vowed that he will not allow the bureaucracy to destroy Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar, Dec 21: Suspected militants fired upon a joint naka party of police and Central Reserve Police Force at Soura area on Srinagar outskirts this evening, official sources said here.
They said a joint team of police and CRPF had set up a checkpoint, when militants opened fire on them.
“The fire was retaliated. The attackers managed to escape, taking advantage of the darkness,” they said, adding that no security personnel was injured in the firing.
A massive hunt has been launched in the area to trace the militants. Police have not issued any statement on the incident so far.

According to reports, a number of teachers working as clerks in Zonal Education Offices and Chief Education Offices, haven’t yet joined back their original postings.
