Ophthalmology Deptt of GMC Sgr goes to ‘dogs’ as mere 158 surgeries carried out in 6 months | Most professors ask patients to get the surgery done at a private hospital | | Jehangir Rashid

SRINAGAR, Dec 3: The Ophthalmology department of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar seems to have gone to dogs as just 158 surgeries have been carried out by the professors of the department in six months of this year.
The number of surgeries being carried out is very less than the number of surgeries that ought to have been carried out during the same period. In response to a Right to Information (RTI) application, the Public Information Officer (PIO) of GMC Srinagar has said that 158 surgeries have been carried out by Ophthalmology department from March 18, 2020 to September 30, 2020.
Deputy Medical Superintendent who is the PIO of GMC Srinagar has replied to the RTI application and said that Professor Tariq Qureshi has carried out around 90 percent surgeries in the department. Professor Qureshi who is the Head of the Ophthalmology department carried out 138 surgeries during the six and half months’ period.

Jammu, Dec 3: In what has left the security agencies on tenterhooks, the truck used by terrorists, who were recently gunned down at the Nagrota Toll Post here, was driven to Punjab.
Sources said the Jammu and Kashmir Police have got credible inputs that around a fortnight before the deadly encounter, the truck had travelled to Punjab and stayed there for around a week.
