J&K has more 'Lakhpati Didis' than Punjab, Himachal 12/3/2024 9:57:47 PM Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 3: Jammu and Kashmir has emerged ahead of its neighboring states Punjab and Himachal Pradesh in the number of "Lakhpati Didis" – women earning more than Rs 1 lakh annually through self-help group (SHG) initiatives. This announcement was made by Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasan, Minister of State in the Ministry of Rural Development, during a session in the Lok Sabha today. According to the minister, Jammu and Kashmir boasts an impressive 43,050 Lakhpati Didis, surpassing Himachal Pradesh, which has 40,417, and Punjab, with 31,700. These figures underscore the success of women-led SHGs in J&K, facilitated under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM). Dr. Pemmasan highlighted the impact of SHGs in empowering rural women economically and socially. “The achievement reflects the focused efforts in building capacity and promoting entrepreneurship among women in the Union Territory,” he said.
