Jammu, Jan 31: Even when the figures pertaining to the area of Jammu as well as Kashmir valley are becoming public, there are wide-scale apprehensions amongst the public circles about whether Jammu will be accorded its rightful due this time.
Post bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, and subsequent creation of Ladakh as a separate union territory, the area of Kashmir valley is 15,520.3 km2 (5,992.4 sq mi). However, the total area of Jammu division is 26,293 km2 (10,152 sq mi). It means the area is 10773 sq kms more than Kashmir valley.
Now the question arises that in the recent delimitation process why the power balance is still tilted towards Kashmir valley while Jammu has been asked to remain contended with mere addition of six years making the total sum as 43 assembly constituencies. However, even when Kashmir has 10773 sq kms less than Jammu, its assembly segments will have 47 seats as per the delimitation commission proposal.
