Ladakhi groups to protest in Delhi for statehood | | |

New Delhi, Feb 14: Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance, an amalgam of trade unions, social, political and religious groups from Ladakh, are set to hold a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Wednesday to raise demand of statehood for the Union Territory.
Ladakh became a Union Territory, along with Jammu and Kashmir, when Article 370 and 35 A were abrogated on August 5, 2019. While Jammu and Kashmir is a UT with legislature, Ladakh does not have any provision for it. The two groups, which came together with a set of demands for Ladakh, will hold a daylong protest in the national capital on Wednesday, activist and politician Sajjad Hussain said.
“When Ladakh was made a Union Territory, we were promised development. However, it’s been four years and we cannot see any development happening,” Hussain said.

Agartala (Tripura), Feb 14: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir will come up after assembly polls, and that a call on the timing of elections will be taken by the Election Commission.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Mr Shah also said there has been improvement in the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, and terrorism-related figures were at their lowest.
Amit Shah said Article 370 pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir, which was abrogated by the BJP-led government in 2019, had harmed the country. He said the way development is taking place in Jammu and Kashmir, terrorism is gradually ending.

Srinagar, Feb 14: A wreath-laying ceremony was held at CRPF Martyrs Memorial at Lethpora, Pulwama to pay tributes to the 40 jawans, who lost their lives in a suicide bombing in 2019.
Additional Director General J&K Zone CRPF, Daljit Singh Chawdhary and officers from CRPF including IG CRPF Kashmir operations Sector M.S Bhatia and senior officers from other Security forces and administration paid homage and respect to the fallen heroes followed by a two minute silence, a spokesman of the forces said.
A blood donation camp was also organised on this occasion in memory of the personnel killed on February 14, 2019. At least 75 CRPF personnel donated blood in the camp.

JAMMU, Feb 14: A 120-mm mortar shell was destroyed Tuesday in a controlled explosion by Army experts after it was found in a forward village near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said.
The old mortar shell was found during road construction work between Islamabad and Shahpur in Bandi Chachi by the Border Roads Organisation around 1:15 pm, the officials said.

Srinagar, Feb 14: Single way traffic was restored on Jammu-Srinagar Highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir valley with the outside world, after remaining closed for throughout night and several hours on Tuesday morning.
A traffic police official said that the single-way traffic was restored after clearance of the debris. “Firstly stranded vehicles will be cleared,” he said and urged commuters to “travel with caution.”
