Centre likely to create more districts in Ladakh | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 1: To counter agitation launched by non-BJP groups in support of statehood and the sixth schedule, the Union Government is seriously thinking of creating more districts in Ladakh.
Highly placed sources said that the announcement of at least two new districts namely Zanskar in Kargil and Nubra in Leh is likely to be made before the implementation of the model code of conduct of the Lok Sabha elections.
While the BJP has been demanding the creation of five new districts in Ladakh, the Union Government is likely to announce two new administrative units to counter agitating groups that are repeatedly targeting the BJP.
BJP has been demanding the creation of five new districts namely Zanskar, Nubra, Shaam, Changthang, and Drass in the Ladakh division.
The demand for the creation of more districts in Ladakh has repeatedly been made by various social and political organizations, including the local unit of BJP of Ladakh.

Jammu, Feb 1: High altitude areas of Jammu province, including the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi atop the Trikuta hills in Reasi district, received fresh snowfall on Thursday morning.
Officials said moderate to light rains also lashed the plains of the Jammu region.

Jammu, Feb 1: The Jammu-Srinagar national highway was closed for traffic on Thursday due to a landslip in Ramban district, leaving over 200 vehicles stranded.
The highway also witnessed fresh snowfall at several places.
The landslip took place in Sherbibi area of the district, which also witnessed heavy rains, officials said.
“The road damaged near Sherbibi on Jammu-Srinagar highway and restoration work is about to start”, traffic police said on X.

SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Authorities on Thursday issued an avalanche warning in the higher reaches of eight districts of Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, officials said.
Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) said a “medium danger” level avalanche is likely to occur at 2400 metres above sea level in the higher reaches of Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal and Kupwara districts of Kashmir valley in the next 24 hours.
Similar warnings have been issued in Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban districts of Jammu division during the next 24 hours, they said.
