Mirwaiz's extended Delhi visit sparks speculation

New Delhi, Feb 1: The ongoing visit Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to Delhi has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the purpose of his extended stay in the National Capital. Initially, Mirwaiz traveled to Delhi last month to meet with members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Waqf Bill. However, his prolonged stay has fueled speculation about potential backchannel negotiations. As part of fund transfers for Union Territories, the Union Finance Ministry today proposed an allocation of Rs 41000. 07 crore to Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory in the Union Budget for 2025-26. New Delhi, Feb 1: The government will introduce a new Income Tax bill in Parliament next week, replacing the six-decade old income tax act of 1961. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her 2025-26 Budget speech, said the new I-T Bill will carry forward the spirit of "Nyaya" (justice) based on the concept of "trust first, scrutinise later". "The new bill will be clear and direct in text with close to half of the present law, in terms of both chapters and words. Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 1: The Government of India has allocated Rs 9325 crore for the Jammu & Kashmir Police, which is under the administrative control of the Union Home Ministry, in the Union Budget for 2025-26. No custom duty on 36 life-saving medicines

New Delhi, Feb 1: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday proposed to fully exempt customs duty on 36 drugs used in the treatment of cancer, rare diseases and other severe chronic diseases. The government had earlier cut customs duties on Trastuzumab Deruxtecan, Osimertinib and Durvalumab from 10 per cent to nil. "To provide relief to patients, particularly those suffering from cancer, rare diseases and other severe chronic diseases, I propose to add 36 lifesaving drugs and medicines to the list of medicines fully exempted from Basic Customs Duty (BCD)," Sitharaman said while presenting 8th consecutive Budget. Early Times Report BANIHAL/JAMMU, Feb 1: One person was killed and three others injured when a truck loaded with liquor bottles skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Saturday, officials said. The accident occurred near Battery Cheshma in Ramban district when its driver Rafaqat Khattana lost control while negotiating a curve. The truck was en route to Srinagar from Jammu, police said.
