Amid privatisation clatter, Power Deptt employees face salary crisis | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 2: Amid clatter for privatisation of the Power Department, newly created power corporations in Jammu and Kashmir have failed to disburse regular salaries to over 30,000 employees for the past two months.
According to sources, over 30,000 workers in Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) have not received their salaries for December and January months.
“The employees including the senior officials such as Executive Engineers as well as Chief Engineers have been facing hurdles on account of regular payment of salaries,” an official said.
Sources further disclosed that usually the salary of the staff is met out of “Grant in Aid” from the government and same is regulated on advance drawl basis at Secretariat level. “The procedure of giving salary through Grant-in-Aid, is bit ineffective as final settlement of expenditure accounts throughout the J&K is still pending from the date of emergence of corporations”, the sources said, adding that due to delay in regular disbursement ... | |

Jammu, Feb 2: A senior BJP leader, claimed to be ultra-nationalist, is assiduously trying to arrange plum positing for a ‘tainted’ police officer, who allegedly played dubious role during the infamous Kishtwar riots.
Reliable sources told The Early Times, a so-called ‘hardcore’ BJP has written a ‘DO’ letter in which he has sought very important and lucrative positing for a police officer. The post, for which BJP leader has written the letter, is considered as very lucrative and sensitive.

Srinagar, Feb 2: The Srinagar based Environmental Policy Group (EPG) on Tuesday claimed that twenty thousands (20,000) kanals of land belonging to Hokersar wetland is under illegal encroachments and that the water body was set to lose the Ramsar status. “Yes, hokersar has lost more than 20000 of its recorded 27200 Kanals to land encroachers.
The government of Jammu and Kashmir has also encroached a portion of it and raised concrete structures on it and due to this unchecked encroachment and several other reasons it is all set to lose the Ramsar Status,” Convener-Environmental Policy Group (EPG) Faiz Bakshi told Early Times over phone.

SRINAGAR, Feb 2: The COVID-19 recovery rate in Jammu & Kashmir reached 97.90 percent as 83 more patients recovered today. The positive cases reached 1, 24,594 with 44 new cases; death toll reached 1,938 with two deaths being reported from Kashmir valley in the past 24 hours.
Srinagar district reported 12 new cases followed by Ganderbal district nine cases, Jammu district eight cases, Pulwama district five cases, Baramulla, Anantnag and Samba districts two cases each and Budgam, Kulgam, Udhampur & Poonch districts one case each.
