Kashmir parties lobby for early Assembly polls | Chat Mangini Pat Biayah! | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 9: With the delimitation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir having been given an extension of one year, some of the main Kashmir-based political parties are lobbying for “early Assembly elections.”
Sources said some of the parties like the National Conference, Awami National Conference and the Peoples Conference have started lobbying in the corridors of power in New Delhi that elections should be held before the delimitation exercise is completed.
The Peoples Democratic Party, however, it was learnt is yet to give its consent for the same.
Sources said the Kashmir-based regional parties are of the opinion that if the elections are held before delimitation exercise, the elected government can get the delimitation exercise further delayed.
Sources said some of the leaders from the NC are already in touch with some of the leaders from the Bharatiya Janta Party, and have been trying to persuade them over holding of Assembly elections as soon as possible.

Jammu, Mar 9: As her pressure tactics failed to yield a desirable result, PDP president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has approached Delhi High Court seeking quashing of ED summons requiring her to appear before it on March 15 in connection with a money laundering case.
Notably the same Mehbooba Mufti on February 24 had pointed the finger towards the judicial system of the country for not granting bail to his close-aide Waheed Parra, who was arrested in connection with a terror case.
Mehbooba was very much aware that ED would summon her in the money laundering case so she has been adopting pressure tactics to pressurize the central agencies.

Jammu, Mar 9: A total of more than 1400 Utilization Certificates of funds involving whooping amount of Rs 6,685.19 crore from various Autonomous Bodies/authorities of Jammu and Kashmir government are pending, raising suspicion about the way the funds have been spent by them.

RAJOURI, Mar 9: Despite spending crores of rupees in the construction of Manpur Bajnawa Water Supply Scheme, it has been lying defunct depriving the local residents of the benefits of drinking water supply in their areas. Moreover, new motors installed for the Water Supply Scheme were allegedly replaced with old one and later motors were damaged.
Sources told Early Times that Manpur Bajnawa Water Supply Scheme was sanctioned for an amount of Rs 3.5 crores and many villages were to be linked with this scheme to provide water supply to local residents but despite creating infrastructure for the WSS, it could not function due to unknown reasons.

BARAMULLA, Mar 9: One of the most wanted militant and Chief of Al-Badr outfit Gani Khawaja was killed on Tuesday in an encounter at Tujjar area of Sopore in this north Kashmir district.
