Transforming J&K: Good governance still a distant dream in UT | | |

Jammu, Mar 11: Notwithstanding the claims of the J&K government, good governance is still a distant dream because initiatives taken by the administration are confined only to papers and advertisements.
Enhancing governance deficit and failure of the bureaucrats to establish connect with common masses has increased alienation of the people.
It is all due to the increasing governance deficit that a section of nationalist people of Jammu are forced to think that decisions to abrogate Article 370 and 35-A have not yielded desirable results.
After the historic decision of the Union Government on August 5, 2019, the people of J&K in general and the Jammu region, in particular, were hoping that they will get the taste of good governance like other parts of the country.
But all their hopes have been dashed due to the attitude of some Babus.
During the last one and half years, the situation is going from bad to worse because those at the helm of the affairs are not ready to listen to the grievance of the people.

Jammu, Mar 11: Jammu and Kashmir State Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) seems to have thrown rules to the wind. In spite of purchasing new vehicles, the corporation was hiring the four-wheelers from the market, putting the burden on the exchequer.

Jammu, Mar 11: The General Administration Department (GAD) on Friday reprimanded the babus for failing to finalize the Annual Performance Reports (APRs) and set the 3-day deadline for the same.
According to the details available with Early Times there are 32 files pending at Initiating level, 76 are lying with reviewing officers and 234 are in the offices of accepting authority i.e. the highest level.
The GAD had extended the deadline for filing the APRs many times during the past few months, but the officials haven’t acted despite being provided ample opportunities.

Udhampur, Mar 11: While the blast victims in Udhampur hospital were in dire need of medical care, the concerned medical officer was absent from the duty in an unauthorised manner.
An order from the Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Udhampur sought explanation from Dr. Shivani Kotwal the concerned Medical Officer stating that failing the same may lead to disciplinary action against her for dereliction of duties.
The order quoted sources to claim that Dr. Kotwal was performing the duty of Internal Examiner for the exams of GNM when the blast victims were crying in pain for her medical care.
