Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 16: Notwithstanding the hue and cry created by some radical forces, former Chief Minister and president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti defended her decision to perform “Jalabishek” at Poonch temple. “We are a secular nation. We follow ‘Ganga Jamuni tehzeeb’. I respect all religions. I went to a temple built by our leader, late Yashpal Sharma Ji. It is a beautiful temple. Someone at the temple handed me a vessel full of water with devotion. Agencies New Delhi, Mar 16: India on Thursday approved the capital acquisition of indigenously-developed military hardware worth Rs 70,584 crore as part of a mega procurement plan that is expected to significantly boost domestic defence manufacturing. The approval to the procurement proposals was accorded by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, officials said. The go-ahead to the fresh procurement proposals came amid the nearly three-year-long standoff along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh with China. Srinagar-Leh National Highway reopens after 68 days

Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 16: After closure for over two months, the strategic Srinagar-Leh national highway was thrown open for vehicular traffic by the Border Road Organization (BRO) on Thursday. The 434 kilometer long highway serves as an important link between the people of Ladakh and Kashmir, and thousands of soldiers stationed in Ladakh region. The highway traverses through the Himalayas at Zojila pass, located at 11500 feet,and then the Zanskar Mountain Range at Fatula to enter Ladakh. Agencies New Delhi, Mar 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday lauded the efforts of the team of doctors at AIIMS Delhi who performed a successful rare procedure on a grape-size heart of a fetus in 90 seconds. The Prime Minister said that the country is proud of its doctors' dexterity and innovation. Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 16: The Meteorological (MeT) department on Thursday predicted rainfall and thunderstorm during next 72 -hours in Jammu and Kashmir. The weather is partly cloudy in several parts of Kashmir. The weatherman said thunderstorms with rain at scattered places of J&K was expected towards late afternoon and evening on Thursday. From March 17-20, there will be intermittent rain or thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds at scattered places in the union territory, Met said.
