Jammu, Mar 24: While J&K Police has nabbed the Gujarati conman, Kiren Patel, who was pretending to be a senior official from the Prime Minister’s Office, the ongoing investigations have exposed how some officials in the civil and police administration in Kashmir would “love” to be scolded by the accused only to seek his “Aashirwad”.
Sources said during the interrogation, Patel told the investigators that some of senior officials from the police and civil administration would “literally beg for appointment with him.”
Sources said during his previous visits, senior officials would wait for hours outside his hotel room in Srinagar to meet him for “interaction and blessings.”
Sources said Patel has told the investigators that he would pretend to be “no nonsense bureaucrat” and would scold the visitors including senior officials.
“His one common phrase used to be ‘how dare you come here without appointment?’,” said a source close to the investigations.

Individual taxpayers with income over Rs 7 lakh to get relief | | |

NEW DELHI, Mar 24: In a relief to taxpayers opting for new tax regime, individuals earning marginally higher income than no-tax ceiling of Rs 7 lakh will pay tax only on the differential income after the government amended the Finance Bill.
The Finance Bill 2023, passed by the Lok Sabha on Friday, has proposed a marginal relief to taxpayers under new tax regime.
Explaining the provision, the finance ministry said under the new tax regime with effect from April 1, if a taxpayer has annual income of Rs 7 lakh s/he pays no tax. But if s/he has income of Rs 7,00,100 s/he pays tax of 25,010.
Thus an additional income of Rs100 leads to a tax of Rs 25,010.

Bengaluru, Mar 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday security in the ocean needs to be strengthened as most of the narcotic drugs are shipped in Pakistan and go via Iran to Sri Lanka and Africa.
He said drug control is not just the Centre’s fight but of the states, societies and citizens.
“At least 60-70 per cent of drug smuggling happens through the sea route,” he said addressing the regional conference on ‘Drug Trafficking and National Security’ for southern States and Union Territories.

Srinagar, Mar 24: Meteorological office predicts widespread rain, thunderstorm with snowfall over higher reaches at most places of Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
It said thunderstorm may be accompanied by strong gusty winds with possibility of hailstorm in plains from Friday afternoon onwards.
The weather man has also advised orchards to postpone spraying their plants in view of the weather forecast, besides urging the people to get confirmation from the concerned traffic police before taking any travel.

Srinagar, Mar 24: Army shot dead a suspected terrorist as they foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LOC)in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The bid was eliminated during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday at Jabdi area in Tangdhar sector.
“One terrorist has been neutralised in the operation. Search operation in the area is still going on,” officials said.

The avalanche is likely to occur above seal level over Baramulla, Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Kupwara, Kupwara, Poonch, Ramban, Reasi, Anantnag, and Kulgam.
