jammu, Mar 28: At present when the government in Jammu and Kashmir is battling all odds to prevent the spread of deadly COVID19, it may take a cue from the series of vita methods taken by Maharaja Pratap Singh during his tenure to combat similar crisis back in 1892.
Maharaja Ranbir Singh was succeeded by his son Mahraja Pratap Singh in 1885. He was 35 years old when he ascended to the throne and had already made his mark as a scholar and administrator.
The insanitary and squalid conditions in towns led to the outbreak of serious diseases. In the year 1892, the epidemic of cholera took the toll of ten thousand people in Kashmir valley. Four years later, in the year 1896, the epidemic of cholera spread in the entire state including the Jammu region. Similar diseases spread in the year 1902, 1903-04, 1906-07 and 1910. In order to prevent the recurrences of such epidemics, Maharaja Pratap Singh took several important measures that prevented the spread of such deadly diseases in the state.

SRINAGAR, Mar 28: Saturday saw a quantum jump in the Novel Corona Virus cases as 13 more persons tested positive for the Virus in the Jammu & Kashmir divisions respectively. The number of people affected by the Virus has reached 33 in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
Out of the 33 affected persons one has passed away while as two patients have recovered so far. As on date there are 30 active cases of Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir. While as Kashmir accounts for 23 such patients the number of such patients in Jammu division is seven.

jammu, Mar 28: Five villages in Manjakote tehsil of Rajouri district were on Saturday declared as red zones and their surrounding villages as buffer zones to prevent the spread of coronavirus, officials said.
The villages include Sarola, Dehridhara, Mangal Nar, Gambir Muglan and Kotli, the officials said quoting an order issued by Rajouri District Development Commissioner Mohammad Nazir Sheikh.

NEW DELHI, Mar 28: To help stranded Jammu and Kashmir residents in the national capital and other parts of the country due to lockdown, the J&K Resident Commission has set up a 24x7 dedicated helpline centre.
Additional Secretary Rimpy Ohri is supervising the centre's functioning. Three helpline numbers -- 24611210, 24611108 and 24615475 -- have been announced.
