Jammu, Mar 4: After a successful rally in Jammu on February 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kick off the Lok Sabha election campaign in Kashmir on March 7. MPs and MLAs taking bribes to vote or make a speech in the House are not immune from prosecution, the Supreme Court said on Monday in a landmark, unanimous verdict that overrules its 1998 judgment protecting such lawmakers.
Observing that bribery is not protected by parliamentary privileges, a seven-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud held that a five-judge bench’s interpretation in the 1998 verdict in the JMM bribery case was contrary to Articles 105 and 194 of the Constitution.

Jammu, Mar 4: Four persons were killed while three others sustained injuries in a road accident in J&K’s Ramban district on Monday after their vehicle skidded off the road.
Police have identified as Abdul Wahid Bali, Anayattullah, Mohammad Ayoub Bali, and driver Sajjad Ahmad.
“A vehicle on the way from Maligam to Ukhrall in Ramban district skidded off the road near Maligam.
The vehicle went out of the driver’s control and dropped into a deep gorge,” police said.
Police said that a rescue operation was launched and four bodies were recovered from the accident site.
