India doesn’t believe in conflict between ecology, economy: PM Modi | | | Agencies
Mysuru, Apr 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India did not believe in conflict between ecology and economy but gave importance to coexistence between the two.
Protection of wildlife was a universal issue, PM Modi said, launching the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) that endeavours to protect and conserve big cats.
The Prime Minister was speaking after inaugurating the programme 'Commemoration of 50 years of Project Tiger' organised at Karnataka State Open University.
Citing data that showed the tiger population in India stood at 3,167 in 2022, PM Modi said: "The tiger numbers that we have reached shows that this family of ours is growing. This is a moment of pride." Calling for a standing ovation to celebrate the rise in tiger population, he added, "I'm confident and I assure the world that in the days to come we will achieve more." According to the data, the tiger population was 1,411 in 2006, 1,706 in 2010, 2,226 in 2014, 2,967 in 2018 and 3,167 in 2022.

Jammu, Apr 9: The ongoing campaign of security forces against narco-terrorism achieved a big success today when the Army captured alive two infiltrators who were trying to sneak into this side of the Line of Control (LoC) with narcotics.
Three infiltrators were trying to sneak into this side of LoC from the Poonch sector. One of them was killed by the Army while two were captured alive.
According to the defence spokesperson in the search operation so far three bags with fourteen packets of narcotics weighing approx 17 kilograms, Pakistan currency, some documents, and eatables have been recovered.

New Delhi, Apr 9: Amid rising COVID-19 cases, a nationwide mock drill to take stock of hospital preparedness will be held on April 10 and 11 in which both public and private facilities are expected to participate.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will visit AIIMS, Jhajjar on April 10 to oversee the mock drill, officials said on Sunday.
In a review meeting held on April 7, Mr Mandaviya had urged state health ministers to visit hospitals and oversee the mock drills.

SRINAGAR, Apr 9: The work on the strategic Zojila tunnel – an all-weather connection between the Kashmir valley and the Ladakh region — is going on at a rapid pace and over 40 % of the drilling has been completed, the construction company said on Sunday.
The company said it is hopeful of completing the project by December 2026.
The tunnel project – through the mighty Zojila Pass at an altitude of 11,578 feet on the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National highway – is of strategic importance as the highway remains closed during winters due to heavy snowfall, cutting off Ladakh region from Kashmir.

New Delhi, Apr 9: The application window for CUET-UG reopened Sunday for three days following representation from students and there will be no change in the syllabus after rationalisation of NCERT textbooks, officials said.
“Following requests from several students, we have decided to re-open the application portal for CUET-UG on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday and it will close at 11.59 pm on Tuesday (11 April 2023). Students are requested to visit cuet.samarth.ac.in for more details,” UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar said.
Nearly 14 lakh students have applied for CUET-UG, up by 41 per cent since last year.
