Tourist villages project goes haywire due to casual approach of officers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 28: The ‘ambitious’ project to develop tourist villages in all the 20 districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir goes haywire due to the casual approach of those at the helm of the affairs.
To boost tourism in J&K, a comprehensive project was approved to develop tourist villages in each district of J&K to tap tourism potential in unexplored areas.
According to official documents, 50 villages, across J&K were identified for development as tourist villages under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme (PMRP) through the rural tourism scheme of the Ministry of Tourism of the Union Government.
The aim of this project was to generate employment for the people at their door steps by attracting tourists from different parts to improve the economic conditions of the villagers.
With a promise to continue the flow of the funds to complete this comprehensive project, the first installment of an amount worth Rs 23.71 crore was released by the Union Government.

Jammu, Apr 28: Although the findings of the three-member inquiry committee are yet to be made public, it is believed that the panel has held some Katra-based police officers responsible for the stampede at the Bhawan of Mata Vaishno Devi on January 1, 2022, in which 12 pilgrims were killed.
After the tragedy, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had asked the then home secretary Shaleen Kabra to probe into the death of 12 pilgrims in a stampede at the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi.

New Delhi, Apr 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated 91 FM transmitters spread across 18 states and two union territories, in a move that will boost FM radio connectivity in the border regions and aspirational districts.
With these new transmitters set up in 84 districts, the coverage will further increase by about 35,000 sq km area, benefitting an additional two crore people who did not have access to the medium so far.

NEW DELHI, Apr 28: Extending the scope of its 2022 order beyond three states, the Supreme Court on Friday directed all states and Union Territories to register cases against those making hate speeches even if no complaint has been made.
A bench of Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna termed hate speeches a “serious offence capable of affecting secular fabric of the country”.
