Jammu, May 11: As “sticky bombs” emerged as a new threat in Jammu and Kashmir, the top officials of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have put jawans on high alert to face this new challenge during this year’s Amarnath Yatra.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Deputy Inspector General, Hiranagar Range, Devender Yadav, emphasized alertness to deal with the threat of “sticky bombs”.
“There is no other way but alertness to deal with the new threat. In our area of responsibility, security deployments will be put on alert and jawans will be sensitized about the threat,” Yadav told reporters after inaugurating the inter-battalion weight lifting competition of CRPF units at Sidhara area in Jammu.
CRPF of Hiranagar Range is looking after the area where “sticky bombs” were recovered first time in February 2021. Secondly, the stretch is considered a highly sensitive area on Jammu-Pathankot national highway.

Jammu, May 11: CRPF personnel, who will be deployed for the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, are being sensitised about the threat posed by "sticky bombs", a senior officer said on Wednesday, asserting that alertness is the best way to deal with the problem.
In a first of its kind seizure in February last year, the Border Security Force (BSF) confiscated a drone-dropped consignment along the International Border in Samba district which included 14 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) with in-built magnets.
These could be used as "sticky bombs" by sticking them on vehicles and controlling them using a timer and a remotely-held device.

New Delhi, May 11: The “exponential growth” in local youngsters joining terrorist ranks in Jammu and Kashmir over the last two years is a cause of concern for the security establishment with officials saying such operatives constitute about 60 per cent of the total active strength, CRPF sources said on Wednesday.
At the same time, as per the sources, out of the around 150-163 active terrorists in the Union Territory at present, 85 are stated to be foreigners, largely Pakistanis.

Srinagar, May 11: A militant who is believed to have infiltrated recently from Pakistan has been killed in an ongoing gunfight in Kashmir's Bandipora district, police said on Wednesday.
The gun battle erupted between militants and security forces during a cordon and search operation in the Salinder forest area.
“As the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hidden terrorists fired indiscriminately. This was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter," a police officer said.
Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said the slain was part of a newly infiltrated group.

Jammu, May 11: Police and other security forces on Wednesday launched a massive search operation along the International Border (IB) in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir to sanitize the border villages ahead of Amarnath Yatra next month, officials said.
The joint operation by police, Army, BSF and CRPF is underway at village Glad and adjoining areas near the border fence, the officials said.

Srinagar, May 11: Union Minister of State B L Verma on Wednesday said the government will accept the court verdict on Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohammad Yaseen Malik who has pleaded guilty to all charges including under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Verma said this to the media at Baramulla a day after the JKLF chief pleaded guilty to all the charges against him at a Delhi court. “The BJP will accept whatever the court decides regarding Malik," he said.
