168 terrorists operating in J&K, 75 killed this year: Army | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 12: At least 168 terrorists are operating in Jammu and Kashmir while 75 have been killed in encounters with security forces this year, officials said.
Among those neutralised include 21 foreign mercenaries, they pointed out.
In the past 11 months, 11 terrorists were encountered and 12 infiltration bids were foiled in the vicinity of the Line of Control (LoC) alone, they said.
"The intensity of (counter-terrorism) operations will continue to be high till all of the residual 168 plus terrorists surrender or are eliminated," a senior army officer said.
He said the overall situation is progressively improving due to the proactive army-guided deployment, leading to a positive environment to accelerate the government's development initiatives.
Dividends of peace have started reaching the people and they are further getting motivated to preserve and sustain peace", the officer added.

Srinagar, May 12: In brazen violation of norms, some of the private schools in Srinagar are defying the summer timings as announced by the government thereby triggering traffic jams at peak hours.
As per the government order, all the schools in Srinagar were scheduled to operate from 8:00 AM to 2:00 from May 1. Till April 30, the schools would operate from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The school timings were revised to reduce traffic congestion at peak hours that would otherwise affect work at government offices in particular as people would get stuck in traffic jams.

Srinagar, May 12: Security forces have called off an overnight operation in Kashmir’s Anantnag district as the militants who engaged government forces in a brief gunfight managed to escape, officials said on Thursday.
The militants and the security forces exchanged heavy fire on Wednesday evening briefly at Marhama Bijbehara in Anantnag district during a cordon and search operation.
“It seems the terrorists fled in the initial stages of the operation,” a security official said. “Searches were carried out later but no fresh contact was established.”
