Where are 400 ventilators procured by Health Department? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 15: Health and Medical Education Department has purchased as many as 400 ventilators during the first wave of deadly Coronavirus but it is still a mystery where these ventilators are installed.
As per a letter of Managing Director, Medical Supply Corporation Jammu on March 28, 2020, order for the procurement of 400 ventilators was placed on an immediate basis “to restrict the spread of COVID-19”.
Sources said that during the first wave of COVID in the year 2020, Rs 240.10 crores were spent on purchasing various equipment to ‘contain the spread of the deadly virus. Despite spending such a huge among of purchasing equipment, the system completely collapsed during the second wave of the virus.
Highly placed sources in the Health Department said that after purchasing these ventilators some of the machines were dispatched in the peripheries without deputing technical staff.
Most of these ventilators are gathering dust in the hospitals of peripheries because higher-ups in the Health Department failed recruit trained staff for the same.

PM Modi orders audit of ventilators provided by Union government | | | Agencies
NEW DELHI, May 15 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday ordered an “immediate” audit of installation and operation of ventilators provided by the central government, according to a statement from Prime Minister’s Office.
This comes against the backdrop of reports about ventilators supplied under Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARES) Fund lying unutilized in some states, even as covid-19 patients are gasping for breath due to medical oxygen shortage.
According to the government, PM CARES Fund has allocated ₹2,000 crore for supplying 50,000 ventilators in government-run covid hospitals in states and Union territories.

Leh, May 15: The third phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive, which covers people in the age group of 18 to 44 years, started in the Union Territory of Ladakh on Saturday, officials said.
The inoculation drive started at six vaccine session sites, of which there are two fixed sites each in Leh and Kargil townships, they said.
The two fixed vaccination sites in Kargil district have been set up at the district hospital and the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, while in case of Leh district, the fixed sites are at the Council Secretariat, the officials said.

New Delhi, May 15: Plasma therapy on COVID-19 patients has not been found effective in reducing the progression to severe disease or death and is likely to be dropped from the clinical management guidelines, sources said.
In a meeting of the ICMR-National Task Force for COVID-19 on Friday, all members were in favour of removing the use of convalescent plasma from the Clinical Guidance for Management of Adult COVID-19 Patients citing its ineffectiveness and inappropriate use in several cases, they said.
