Jammu, May 1: Tensions flare within the INDIA bloc as discord emerges over the selection of a “consensus candidate” ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Ladakh.
A clear divide has surfaced within the opposition alliance in the Ladakh Union Territory following the joint announcement by the Kargil units of Congress and National Conference (NC) nominating Haji Hanifa Jan, a senior NC leader and former chief executive councilor, for the solitary Lok Sabha Ladakh seat.
A senior Congress leader, wishing anonymity, said that no decision has been taken so far, immediately after the formal declaration by NC and Congress leaders in Kargil regarding Hanifa Jan’s candidacy.

Srinagar, May 1: Police have arrested 145 drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances worth Rs 1.88 crore from them during this year in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district.
Among the 145 drug peddlers, 79 were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 36 under the PITNDPS Act. Besides, 14 vehicles used for the trade were also seized during the period, police said on Wednesday.

Jammu, May 1: The Jammu-Srinagar national highway was on Wednesday reopened for light motor vehicles (LMVs) after remaining closed for the past two days following multiple landslides triggered by heavy rains in Ramban district, officials said. Goods and Services Tax collections grew 12.4 per cent to a record high of Rs 2.10 lakh crore in April, aided by strong economic momentum and increased domestic transactions and imports, the finance ministry said on Wednesday. The GST collections have breached the Rs 2 lakh crore mark for the first time in April this year, it said in a statement.
“The Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections hit a record high in April 2024 at Rs 2.10 lakh crore. This represents a significant 12.4 per cent year-on-year growth, driven by a strong increase in domestic transactions (up 13.4 per cent) and imports (up 8.3 per cent),” the ministry said
