Jammu, May 19: On the eve of the polling for the Baramulla Lok Sabha elections, former Chief Minister and National Conference candidate Omar Abdullah appealed to people to elect a “genuine representative” who will raise their voice in the Parliament.
“This time I am not going to criticize anyone on the eve of elections but I want to urge you that elect only your representative not an agent of the agencies or a representative of Delhi”, he said, in a veiled attack on his opponent Sajad Gani Lone.
“I assure you that I will fight against the discrimination and treatment being meted out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir after August 5, 2019”, he said.

Anantnag, May 19: The father of a tourist couple from Rajasthan who were injured in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on Saturday requested the Centre to airlift the duo from Srinagar to AIIMS, Delhi for further treatment and to provide them with the best medical facilities.

Srinagar, May 19: ADGP Law and Order in Jammu and Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Sunday visited Pahalgam where terrorists fired upon and injured a couple from Jaipur on Saturday evening.
An official said that the AGDP along with DIG south Kashmir, SSP Anantnag and other senior officers visited Pahalgam to take stock of the situation. On Saturday evening a couple identified as Farah and Tabrez from Rajasthan’s Jaipur were injured after being fired upon by terrorists in Yannar area of Pahalgam.
Officials said that the condition of Tabrez, who has been shifted to Srinagar from GMC Anantnag, continues to be critical, while condition of Farah is stable.

JAMMU, May 19: Security forces have launched a massive search operation after picking up movement of three suspicious persons, believed to be terrorists, near the International Border in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.
A Special Police Officer (SPO) reported the movement of suspected persons in Tarnah nallah near Jangi chak in Hiranagar sector during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the officials said.

Southwest monsoon, the lifeline of India’s farm-based economy, on Sunday made its onset over the Nicobar Islands, the southernmost region of the country, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said here.
“Southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of the Maldives, and the Comorin area and some parts of the South Bay of Bengal, Nicobar Islands and South Andaman Sea on Sunday,” the weather office said.
The annual rainfall phenomenon is expected to reach Kerala by May 31.
The date of monsoon onset over Kerala has varied widely over the last 150 years, the earliest being May 11 in 1918, and the most delayed being June 18 in 1972, according to IMD data.

A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 13.8°C against 14.5°C on the previous night and it was 2.4°C above normal for the summer capital of JK for this time of the year.
Qazigund recorded a minimum of 10.8°C against 11.0°C on the previous night and it was 0.6°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.
