Not endorsing NC’s demand, Congress promises alternate to Art 370 in J&K | | |

Jammu, May 23: Although its coalition partner National Conference is repeatedly promising to restore Article 370 if the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc defeats the BJP in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the Congress on Thursday avoided the question on demand restoring this article.
National general secretary of the AICC and former J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir on Thursday said that Article 370 was granted to the erstwhile State of J&K by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
He, however, avoided endorsing the demand of the National Conference to restore this Article.
“We will provide an alternative to this Article to the people of J&K after the INDIA bloc returns to power”, he said.

Elaborate security arrangements in place ahead of polling | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 23: Multi-layer security has been put in place in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, particularly along the Line of Control (LoC), part of the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency that goes to polls on May 25.
These measures include increased deployment of security personnel, area dominations in hill regions, additional checkpoints and round-the-clock monitoring in the region and at vital installations, officials said on Thursday.

JAMMU, May 23: The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has advised educational institutes to avoid assemblies in the afternoon to prevent heat related illnesses.
The department in a guideline to prevent heat-related illness (HRI) asked the schools to avoid assembling in the afternoon.

SRINAGAR, May 23: Weatherman on Thursday said that the “heat wave” over plains of Jammu and Kashmir was likely to continue for the next six days.
A meteorological department official said that from May 23-28 generally dry weather is expected even as the possibility of thundershower activity at “isolated” places cannot be ruled out.
