With 53% polling Anantnag-Rajouri segment scripts history | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 25: With 53 percent polling the newly crafted Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary constituency scripted a new chapter in the electoral history of Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier it was in the 1984 Lok Sabha elections when the erstwhile Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency recorded 70.08 percent polling, which was an all-time high.
In 1984, the Anantnag parliamentary constituency had a total 6,11,518 electors. Total these total voters, 411826 voters had cast their votes. Jammu & Kashmir Conference candidate Akbar Jahan Begum won and became MP from this seat. She secured a total of 240973 votes. Indian National Congress candidate Peer Hussan-ud-din stood second with a total of 158963 votes. He lost by 82010 votes.
In 2019, the Anantnag parliamentary constituency had a total of 13,97,779 electors. A total of 124896 was cast. Jammu & Kashmir National Conference candidate Hasnain Masoodi won and became MP from this seat. He secured a total 40180 votes. Indian National Congress candidate Ghulam Ahmad Mir stood second with total of 33504 votes. He lost by 6676 votes.

NOWSHERA, May 25: Just metres from the Line of Control (LoC), the polling stations set up for Lok Sabha elections at Sehar and Makri, the last Indian villages in this sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, came to life with enthusiastic voters making a beeline to exercise their franchise without the fear of cross-border shelling. Rajouri along with Poonch south of Pir Panjal is part of Anantnag parliamentary constituency where polling is underway in the sixth phase to seal the fate of 20 candidates including PDP president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti. This is the last of the five constituencies in J&K as polling was held in four seats earlier.

Mattan, May 25: Many non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits expressed anguish on Saturday, claiming that their names were not in the voters’ list, and termed it an “unfortunate” incident with a group that remained in the Kashmir region despite the turbulent militancy-period of the 1990s.
The matter pertained to a polling station set up at the Government Higher Secondary School here in

Srinagar, May 25: Four persons sustained injuries after two groups clashed during polling at polling station Shahpur in District Poonch on Saturday. Officials said that around 12:35 pm two groups clashed between each other for unknown reasons at polling station Shahpur.
During classes four people sustained injuries and where shifted to district hospital Poonch for treatment. Srinagar, May 25: Four Punjab residents died, while three were critically injured in a road accident in Nipora area of Kulgam district on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
An official said that a vehicle on way from Qazigund to Srinagar skidded off the road near grid

SRINAGAR, May 25: Police on Saturday booked a notorious woman drug smuggler under the Narco Act in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The notorious drug smuggler, identified as Muskaan Begum, a resident of Dewanbagh Baramulla, has been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.
