Post-voting in Kashmir Omar goes silent | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 26: National Conference (NC) vice-president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has remained uncharacteristically silent after the conclusion of voting in all three Kashmir constituencies.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Recently concluded elections in Kashmir have been different. This time around polling percentage has been high and no one can predict a winner.”
He said, “Not only Omar, who contested Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla, all other candidates are keeping their fingers crossed.”
Omar during campaigning was seen addressing rallies, engaging with voters, and making numerous media appearances, emphasizing the need for stability and progress in the region.

| | Govt extends tenure of Army Chief Gen Pande | | | New Delhi, May 26: The government on Sunday extended the tenure of Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande for a period of one month.
Gen Pande was to retire from service on May 31.
"The Appointments Committee of Cabinet on May 26 approved the extension in service of Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj C Pande for a period of one month, beyond his normal age of superannuation (May 31), i.e. up to June 30, under Rule 16 A (4) of the Army Rules 1954," the defence ministry said in a statement.

Jammu and Kashmir divisions, night temperature recorded an increase in J&K on Sunday, officials said.
A meteorological department official said that generally dry weather is expected till May 28 even through possibility of thundershower activity at isolated places cannot be ruled out.

JAMMU, May 26: A freight train wagon derailed near Jammu on Sunday, officials said and added there was no major disruption in rail traffic.
The mishap occurred at Sangar near Manwal on the outskirts of Jammu City around 3.30 pm when the goods train was moving from Jammu to Udhampur, they said.
There was no major disruption in services, the officials said.
A crane was rushed from Katra station to restore the affected track, they added.

JAMMU, May 26: A Bangladeshi national appearing to be mentally challenged was detained in a forward village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Pallanwalla area of Akhnoor sub-division here, officials said on Sunday.
An army patrol party saw the person, who seemed to be a vagrant, at Lower Kot Maira in Khour area on Saturday and immediately detained him for questioning, they said.
The person, who disclosed his name as Taffajjal Bablu (36) of Alupotti Natore area of Bangladesh, was handed over to police for further investigation, the officials said.
