Jammu, May 27: The decision of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to approach the Delhi High Court to convert to life imprisonment of banned JKLF chairman Yasin Malik into a death sentence has triggered a debate among political parties of the J&K.
Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari on Saturday said deterrent measures should be taken against those who are trying to threaten national security.
“NIA’s plea demanding the death penalty for Yasin Malik highlights the urgency to address militant funding in Jammu and Kashmir. We must ensure justice prevails and deterrent measures should be taken against those who are trying to threaten our nation’s security,” Bukhari said.

Jammu, May 27: Security forces on Saturday detected and destroyed a landmine and two grenades, all in rusted condition, at two different places in Mendhar sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The landmine was detected by the Army troops during patrolling in Malikpur village near the Line of Control, they said, adding it was subsequently destroyed by the experts of bomb disposal squad in a controlled explosion.
As part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system, the forward areas are dotted with landmines which sometimes get washed away by rains, the officials said.

The terrorist aide identified by police as Mohammad Ashraf Mir of Laridoora Chandoosa was arrested by a joint team of police and Army at Shranz crossing in Nagbal area.
“ On a specific information regarding movement of terrorists in Village Nagbal Chandoosa joint forces of Baramulla Police & 52 RR placed a MVCP (Mobile Vehicle Check Post) at Shranz Crossing. Srinagar, May 27: Weatherman on Saturday forecast cloudy to mainly dry weather on weekend and intermittent ‘light to moderate’ rain, thunderstorm and lightning with possibility of hailstorm and gusty winds at a few places from May 29-31st in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Currently weather is partly cloudy throughout J&K. Brief spell of rain/thunderstorm may occur towards late afternoon/evening at scattered places while mainly dry is expected on May 29,” a meteorological department official said.

Kishtwar, May 27: Three brothers were killed when their house collapsed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Friday, police said.
