5-yrs on, sports infrastructure projects under PMDP incomplete | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 28: Jammu and Kashmir government’s tall claims of promoting sports on priority with world class infrastructure appears to have almost fallen flat as even after five years of its launch, work on eleven indoor sports complexes, renovation-cum upgradation of few and water sports centre at Ranjit Sagar Dam sanctioned under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) is still in progress across the Union Territory.
The Union Ministry of Youth Services and Sports in 2016 had announced multi-utility indoor stadiums to all the 22 districts of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir to groom sports talent among the youth.
Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 was bifurcated into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and the Ladakh after which J&K got 20 indoor complexes under PMDP and two went to the UT of Ladakh.

Jammu, May 28: Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu has preferred his wife ignoring senior professors for nomination of Campus Cultural Committee (CCC).
Insiders told Early Times the VC picked two junior professors for the post of chairperson and co-chairperson for JU CCC and he deliberately ignored senior faculty members.
“Every year the JU nominates chairperson, co-chairperson including other members as governing body for cultural & literary activities. Jammu, May 28: The Union Power Ministry has taken serious note of the inordinate delay in installing smart meters in different parts of J&K to check power pilferage. The Union Ministry has set a target before the Union Territory administration for installing these meters.
Highly placed sources said that during a review meeting, which held virtually on Friday, the status of privatization of electricity departments and utilities in Union Territories was discussed. Meeting also discussed smart metering rollout in UTs especially in J&K and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Anantnag, May 28: The Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has literally blocked the implementation of Prime Minister Modi’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Scheme at Pahalgam.
The Development Authority, which was created to take care of the development of famed tourist destination Pahalgam-is allegedly adopting lackadaisical approach in issuing the permissions to beneficiaries.
According to official sources, out of 227 approved and verified PMAY cases, the PDA has cleared just 5 Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana cases in its 11th BOCA meeting.

New Delhi, May 28: Prime Minister Modi on Friday (May 28) announced financial assistance of Rs 1000 crore for Cyclone Yaas relief activities. Rs 500 crore would be given to Odisha, while the remaining Rs 500 crores have been granted for West Bengal and Jharkhand.
The funds will be released on the basis of the damage, which an inert-ministerial team deployed by the Centre will assess.
